Some of the world’s smallest cars scored oversized results as the auction of the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum generated more than $9.1 million with 100 percent of the lots sold in no-reserve bidding.

Of the 200 diminutive vehicles sold at the Madison, Georgia, museum sale conducted by RM Auctions on Friday and Saturday, the top bid went to a rare 1958 F.M.R. Tg 500 Tiger, the most desirable of the German Messerschmitts and the fastest microcar ever built with a top speed of 78 mph.

The tiny Tiger with the bubble-top roof sold for a remarkable $322,000, including 15 percent bidder fee, an all-time record for a microcar sold at auction.

With an international cadre of bidders, the widely publicized auction of Weiner’s famed microcar collection drew strong results across the board for the colorful group of very small but drivable vehicles built mainly during the 1950s and 1960s.

Also attracting a surprisingly high result was the world’s smallest production car, a1964 Peel P50 that measures just 4 feet, six inches long by 4 feet high and three feet wide. It sold for $120,750, including fee, which was among the many records set during the auction.

“Never before had such a large group of microcars been offered to the public at one time in one location,” said Alain Squindo, vice president of RM Auctions. “It was certainly one of the most exciting auction events RM has ever hosted. From start to finish, the atmosphere was electric with the audience smiling and laughing ear-to-ear."
