A 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona coupe (Lot #5014), one of the most beautiful production Ferraris ever, will be heading over the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction on Saturday, Jan. 19.

With only 9,769 miles, this barely driven Ferrari Daytona has been under-enjoyed and would be a highlight of anyone’s collection.

The Daytona’s designer, Leonardo Floravanti from the studio of Pininfarina, took seven days to create the detailed drawings for this car. This long-nose, short-deck rolling piece of art is powered by a 4.4-liter all-aluminum, four-cam Columbo V12. A forged crankshaft and four-bolt main bearing journals represented the future of engine design since it doesn’t get any better than that, even today.

With the help of six two-barrel Weber carburetors, the engine easily generates more than 350 horsepower. A modern five-speed manual transaxle has been added to improve weight distribution as well as enhancing the overall driving experience.

The car runs as well as it looks, with an impressive zero-60 time of 5.4 second and a top speed of about 170 mph.

The car’s interior is drenched in elegant tan leather and treats the occupants to a luxurious environment. This low-mileage Daytona includes much of its original extras, such as a factory tool kit and dust cloth, the original owner’s manual and the car’s service manual. Service invoices go back to May 1972.

This Daytona coupe was initially ordered by New Jersey banking executive Howard O’Flynn, who was one of Enzo Ferrari’s first U.S. clients, and the car still has its original New Jersey insurance ID card made out to O’Flynn and his wife. The car was kept by the owner in New Jersey until 1988 when it was moved to Texas.

The O’Flynn family sold the car in 2011, and it’s now being offered by Don Williams and his Blackhawk Collection of Danville, Calif.

The 42nd annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction takes place Jan 13-20 at WestWorld, with 39 hours of live coverage on SPEED. For more information about the January event, see Barrett-Jackson.com.
