Kyle Busch dove under Aric Almirola as the two headed to the finish line, completed the pass and won the Mountain Dew 250 Fueled by Fred’s Camping World Truck Series at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday afternoon.
Busch’s truck was in full wiggle mode as he took the checkered flag. Its left wheels were pressed against the yellow line at the bottom of the track which prompted an upset Almirola to claim that the winning pass was illegal.
Busch, however, was given the win, his sixth of the season.
Johnny Sauter finished third.
Matt Crafton was fourth and Ricky Carmichael was fifth.
The big wreck in this one happened four laps from the end and it involved polesitter Ron Hornaday Jr., who was last year’s series champion, and Todd Bodine, the favorite to win this year’s championship.
Hornaday’s truck went airborne on the front stretch, tumbled onto its roof, rolled a couple of more times and came to rest on its roof again.
The truck had to be turned over by track personnel before Hornaday could get out of the truck.
The race had to be red flagged at that point.
Bodine, who started the day 282 points ahead of second-place Almirola when the race started, headed out of Alabama 213 ahead.
