Kurt Busch drove his No. 2 Dodge to victory in the Dickies 500 stretching his fuel mileage to the end and passing his brother Kyle who dominated the race but had no such luck and ran out of fuel in the closing laps.

For Kurt Busch it was the second victory of his career and a bitter blow to brother Kyle who came within three laps of becoming the first driver in NASCAR history to win in NASCAR’s three top touring series in a weekend.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson also suffered a blow to his standings lead when he tangled with Sam Hornish Jr., who had been tapped by David Reutimann, on the third lap and crashed. Johnson’s Chevy spent over an hour in the garage for repairs and he rejoined the race and finished 38th. He lost 111 points to Mark Martin, who finished fourth Sunday.

Denny Hamlin and his crew took a fuel mileage gamble that paid off with a second place finish. Matt Kenseth was third, and Kevin Harvick was behind Martin in fifth.

Other Chase contenders had miserable races including Jeff Gordon who never seemed to find the speed he needed in his Chevy and finished a lap down in 13th and Juan Pablo Montoya, who was caught up in a wreck with Carl Edwards and came home 37th, while Edwards finished 39th. Montoya dropped two spots to sixth in the standings while Edwards dropped one spot to 11th.
