Denny Hamlin won Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway and took the points lead in the process.

















Hamlin will head to Phoenix International Raceway for the second-to-last race in the Chase next week with a 33-point lead over Jimmie Johnson, who started the day as points leader but finished ninth on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick, who started the race third in points, finished sixth. He now trails Hamlin by 59 points. He trails Johnson by 26 points.

Matt Kenseth, who briefly took the lead away from Hamlin after a restart with three laps to go but could not keep it, finished second.

Mark Martin, a non-Chase driver, finished third while Joey Logano was fourth.

Fifth was Greg Biffle, who led the most laps.

The victory was the second for Hamlin at Texas this year and his eighth of the season overall.
