Elliott Sadler led a charge by Ford teams in Sprint Cup qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday.

















Sadler, a non-Chase driver for the Ford team of Richard Petty Motorsports, won the pole for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 with a lap at 195.397 mph.

Earlier in the day, Sadler announced a deal to drive Nationwide cars for Kevin Harvick Inc. in 2011.

Second was Greg Biffle in a Roush Fenway Racing Ford while his teammate, Carl Edwards, was third.

Biffle’s fast lap was at 193.653 mph.

Also enjoying the big day was the Petty team as all four of its drivers qualified in the top 13. Earlier in the week there was some question as to whether RPM would even show up at Texas because of financial troubles.

“It means a lot for them to work as hard as they have been working the last couple weeks to get us in and get us good equipment,” Sadler said. “I really can’t thank my guys at RPM enough for working as hard as they have the last couple weeks to get us good cars to the race track. I could sit here and say it is me, or this or that, but Todd Parrott is the man. He can do so much as a crew chief. He is good for me from the mental side and we have been qualifying so much better here the last six weeks or so.”

Edwards said, “The thing about Elliott though is that he has wings or something. That guy ran two-and-a-half tenths faster than Greg and I and I am telling you my lap felt extremely fast. My hat is off to him. We have Roush Yates engines in the top-three and Fords in the top-three.”

Rounding out the top five were Juan Pablo Montoya in a Earnhardt Ganassi Racing Chevrolet and Roush Fenway’s David Ragan.
