Juan Pablo Montoya won the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday afternoon with a quick lap of 184.640 mph.
The pole was the third of the season for the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing driver and the fifth of his career.
Clint Bowyer, driving for Richard Childress Racing, was second fastest to make for an all Chevrolet front row in the Amp Energy Juice 500.
Bowyer’s fast lap was at 184.498 mph.
Next was Chaser Kurt Busch in a Penske Racing Dodge.
Fourth was Joe Nemechek.
Jeff Burton was fifth fastest while Dale Earnhardt Jr. was sixth.
Points leader Jimmie Johnson was 19th fastest while Denny Hamlin, who is second in points and six behind Johnson, qualified 17th.
Kevin Harvick, third in points, qualified 14th.
The pole was the third of the season for the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing driver and the fifth of his career.
