Jamie McMurray led qualifying for Sunday’s Pepsi Max 400 Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. on Friday, easily winning the pole.

McMurray, in an Earnahardt Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, won the pole with a lap at 185.285 mph. The pole was the fourth of the season for McMurray, who won the two biggest races of the season – the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 – but did not qualify for the Chase.

Elliott Sadler of Richard Petty Motorsports was second fastest. He had a fast lap at 184.407 mph.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Matt Kenseth, a three-time winner at Auto Club was third fastest. Kenseth was the top qualifier among Chase drivers.

Juan Pablo Montoya, McMurray’s teammate, was fourth fastest while Kasey Kahne, Sadler’s teammate was fifth fastest.

Greg Biffle, a Chase driver for Roush Fenway and the winner of last weekend’s Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway, was seventh fastest.

Jimmie Johnson, the defending series champion and the current points leader, was eighth.

Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr., was ninth.
