Wendy Venturini "For more on Michael Waltrip Racing and his retirement, let’s check out this week's “Real Deal”..

Michael Waltrip "As an owner I knew there was a time that would come that I wouldn’t be a full- time driver anymore and that time is now."

Wendy Venturini "Do you feel the weight has been lifted off your shoulders?"

Michael Waltrip "Yeah, I think so. I just appreciate the fact that so many people work so hard to get it all done. It’s the perfect deal at the perfect time. Martin Truex, Jr. is the right guy to occupy my seat and I told you before if I thought I would find someone that would go faster than me in it, I would you get him and they could have it, and that is what we did."

Wendy Venturini "I didn’t believe you when you told me that earlier in the year."

Michael Waltrip "Well, I’ll be honest I don't drive a car to be a race car driver, that doesn’t do it for me. I drive it to win, I just want to win and I hadn’t had chances regularly. I have almost won a couple, but I haven’t had regular chances to do it. It just changes you; it makes you look at things differently. It bolsters our lineup with Martin onboard."

Wendy Venturini "So when you told me that...

Michael Waltrip (NASCAR Raceday, March 2009 quote) "I hate to give my secret away but it had two purposes, I wanted to make sure people watched and see how it would go. That was one; I wanted to make sure if there are any superstar drivers thinking they want to do something different in 2009, they know there might be a seat available for them if they wanted to come to MWR and drive."
