NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Brian Vickers joins Wendy Venturini on this week's edition of Real Deal...

John Roberts "The success of Brian Vickers has been well documented throughout this season and Wendy we have proven so far this year that this number 83 Red Bull team is the Real Deal."

Wendy Venturini "He sure is. And the team is, too. You know they’ve been one of the most consistent teams in the last eight races, have scored more points than anyone else that includes that win they had at Michigan. What does that mean? It’s put them in a position to get this Chase seating. They are 13th in points, 20 out. Brian and the 83 team desperately want to get into this Chase. Brian Vickers has never made the Chase before. Could this make or break his season? Tonight’s race may answer that. We caught up with Brian Vickers for this week’s Real Deal."

Wendy Venturini "First off Brian, congratulations on the solid finish in Atlanta. I know seventh was not the finish that you wanted, but knowing your car and how good it was, how proud of are of your team’s effort overcoming all the adversity you did?"

Brian Vickers "Very proud, obviously it wasn’t our best race, Michigan was our best race, but it was a very good race and in a lot of ways it could have been one our better races, when you really factor in the adversity when to overcome."

Announcer "Major problems for Brian Vickers, a possible broken axle on the left side of car. Vickers, who has been running consistently top 10, most of the time in the top 5, has a major issue here on pit road."

Brian Vickers "For the guys change that axle, I thought that was going to ruin our night and take us out of the shot for the Chase but to change a rear axle without going a lap down was amazing."

Wendy Venturini "You know the quote in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. Does 2007 seem like a distant memory?"

Brian Vickers "It does seem like it’s been a while, time flies. It does seem at times like I guess could call it just a distant memory but at the same time, the wounds are still fresh. We still remember the pains we went through that first season and struggles as a team, and as a group, but I wouldn’t give it up. I think it really made us a stronger team. It made me a stronger race car driver having to go through that. And experience that. I feel like a better person because of it. It doesn’t mean I was happy about it. I never want to repeat it but I think we learned a lot as a team I know did as a driver."

Wendy Venturini "Is making the Chase an original goal for the team this year?"

Brian Vickers "It was, it was a high goal but it was a goal. We wanted to get a pole, we wanted to win a race and be in the Chase. Being in the Chase was probably the highest of the three. You know, this is very competitive sport and it is a very long season and the biggest problem we had wasn’t leading laps or having fast cars, it was not making mistakes and finishing races and being consistent. That was our goal for this year. So we’ve accomplished the first two and now we’re one race away from the third and hopefully it will work out."
