Wendy Venturini: "Another guy who wants to etch his name in the history books today, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and he would probably want to do so in honor of mother’s day weekend. Tomorrow is mother’s day, so this week’s real deal, we decided to catch up with NASCAR’s most popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his mom Brenda. Here is a little bit of an insight into their relationship."

Wendy Venturini: "First off, Brenda, Happy Mother’s Day to you, a day that only comes around once a year. What does it mean to you?"

Brenda Jackson (Dale Jr's Mother): "I mean it’s a personal day that I share with my kids, as every other mother does. I was reminded, it has been several years ago, Dale, forgot to call me on mother’s day, or he didn’t call me. He was out doing some other good stuff, and Kelly got on him, and he said, 'oh hell, every day is Mother’s Day. So every two or three times a year I quote that back to him, and really he’s right, because anything I need or want, I always have. It’s nice to get that little call, mother’s day, though."

Wendy Venturini: "Sounds like you just say every day is mother’s day. What do you think of the day?"

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: "Well you know, I love Mother’s Day because I think it really keeps you in check as a son, especially. It seems like the daughters don’t have so much of a problem with it, but the sons trying to appreciate their moms and giving them a call and letting them know how much you care about them. I’m real lucky, and I get to spend a lot of time with my mom during the year, so if I forget to call her on mother’s day, I guess she lets it slide. I have been better here lately."

Wendy Venturini: "I know you were quite a handful as a child. Were there some things maybe you did as a kid that your Mom is still upset about?"

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: "I can’t really remember. You may remember some times when I really ticked you off, but I don’t think, I thought I was the good one."

Brenda Jackson: "You were really, you were very content to just stay home, do nothing.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: "Like I said, she brought me home from the hospital, and I don’t think I cried once."

Brenda Jackson: "The two of you were total opposite. I mean really, the only thing I can think about is you were a little lazy. That hasn’t changed so I’ve learned to accept that."

Wendy Venturini: "A little laziness built in, only Mom can say that."

Brenda Jackson: "He still lets the cereal bowls pile up, and don’t want to go to bed."

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: "Don’t want to get up."

Brenda Jackson: "Doesn’t want to get up."
