Timothy Peters was fastest in the opening round of practice for Friday night’s season-opening NextEra Energy Resources 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway.

Peters, the 2010 Daytona winner, lapped the 2.5-mile track at 185.578 miles per hour in the No. 17 Tire Kingdom/Service Center Good Sam Toyota. Peters’ speed was the best of the 44 trucks entered in the race, which will be televised live on SPEED at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.

Two-time Daytona winner Todd Bodine was second fast at 185.552 mph in the No. 11 Good Sam Toyota. Bodine and Peters are teammates at Red Horse Racing, and they set the pace in the day’s first of two sessions.

Third on the speed charts was Chris Fontaine’s Glenden Enterprises Toyota, followed by Joey Coulter’s Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet and his teammate, Brendan Gaughan.

The second five was Cale Gale, Miguel Paludo, Bryan Silas, JR Fitzpatrick and Jason White.

SPEED will televise the final Happy Hour round of practice at 6:30 p.m. ET this evening.
