It took a lot of patience, but a break in the weather Thursday night allowed the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams to finally get in one round of practice for Friday night’s WinStar World 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Practice was slated to begin at 11:15 a.m. local time, but didn’t start until 7:52 p.m., thanks to an abundance of rain and “weepers” that allowed water to seep up through the track surface in Turn 3.

When the session finally ended after 98 minutes, it was ThorSport Racing teammates Johnny Sauter and Matt Crafton at the top of the speed charts in their Toyota Tundras, followed by six-time Texas winner Todd Bodine in his Red Horse Racing Toyota. Sauter’s best lap was 181.060 miles per hour in his No. 13 Toyota, with Crafton close behind in the No. 88 at 180.911 mph.

The first Chevrolet was Joey Coulter, fourth-fast in the No. 22 Richard Childress Racing entry. Nelson Piquet Jr. completed the top five in one of the Turner Motorsports Chevrolets.

The second five was Jason Leffler, Ty Dillon, Brendan Gaughan, Gale Cale and Parker Kligerman.

SPEED’s race coverage Friday night begins at 8:30 p.m. ET with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup from TMS, followed by the race at 9 p.m.

With six of 22 races on the books for the 2012 Truck Series season, Justin Lofton leads by a single point over Timothy Peters. Dillon is 13 points back, and James Buescher 16 markers in arrears.
