ALEXANDER RETURNS TO HOMETOWN FOR FRIDAY’S NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES RACE ON SPEED
When SPEED reporter Adam Alexander checks into O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis to cover pit road for Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race (8 p.m. ET on SPEED; NCTS Setup at 7:30 p.m. ET), he’ll pass through his old stomping grounds to get there.
Alexander was born and raised in Indiana and graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis, where he played football and baseball. He grew up in admiration of the majesty that is Indianapolis Motor Speedway long before the track ever opened its gates to NASCAR.
“I was amazed at the level of excitement in Indy during May,” Alexander said. “I remember driving by the track before I ever attended an event there and I was amazed by the enormity of the place. I had no reference point with any other track, so it seemed huge to me. At that time, the Indy 500 was still the hallowed Indy 500 and nothing could compare.”

“The 500 was blacked out from live TV in Indy, so we’d hang out on Memorial Day weekend around the radio, listening to the race,” Alexander, who has been working fulltime for SPEED since 2007, said.
“I had great admiration for Paul Page, Jerry Baker and all the guys who were a part of the radio network at the time. They helped form my career thoughts at a young age.”
When NASCAR finally did land a date at The Brickyard, Alexander attended test sessions and races with his family, although they were never able to score tickets to the Indianapolis 500 other than time trials.
However, Alexander finally made it to the 500 when he took a job working for IMS radio network in 2001. He had interned with Mike King, lead announcer for IMS radio, while in college, and their paths crossed while Alexander was working a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race for the Motor Racing Network.
