Nelson Piquet Jr. was fastest in the first of Thursday’s two practice sessions for Friday’s WinStar World Casino 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Up front in the session were a lot of familiar faces.
Piquet wheeled his No. 30 Turner Motorsports Chevrolet to the top spot among the 37 trucks entered, cranking off a lap of 181.574 miles per hour.
Parker Kligerman of Red Horse Racing was next at 180.735 mph, followed by points leader James Buescher, 180.469 mph, in a second Turner Motorsports entry. Then came Timothy Peters’ Red Horse Toyota and Joey Coulter in the first of the Richard Childress Racing Chevrolets.
The second five was Kyle Busch, John Wes Townley, Brandon McReynolds, Miguel Paludo and Johnny Sauter. Ty Dillon was 12th.
SPEED’s coverage from Texas begins at 3 p.m. ET Friday, with Truck Series qualifying. Then comes NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup at 7:30 p.m., followed by the race at 8 p.m.
Tomorrow night’s race is the 20th of 22 on the Truck Series scheduled. Buescher leads Dillon by 21 points, with Peters (-25) third. Kligerman (-36) and Coulter (-46) complete the top five.
