TRUCKS: Piquet Fastest In Happy Hour

Brazilian Nelson Piquet Jr. set the pace in the final “Happy Hour” practice session for tonight’s American Ethanol 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway.

Piquet, driver of the No. 30 Autotrac Chevrolet Silverado out of the Turner Motorsports stable, had a best lap of 135.496 miles per hour around the 0.875-mile Iowa track.

Second-fast was Justin Lofton, who ran 135.037 mph in the No. 6 J.D. Heiskell & Co. Chevrolet. Then came ThorSport Racing’s Johnny Sauter and Ron Hornaday Jr., who ran identical speeds of 134.886 mph. Fifth was series points leader Timothy Peters in the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota.

The second five consisted of Cale Gale, Miguel Paludo, Jeff Choquette, Brennan Newberry and Paulie Harraka.

SPEED’s live television coverage of tonight’s race begins with qualifying at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup at 8 p.m. and the race at 8:30 p.m.

After eight of 22 Truck Series races, Peters leads with 306 points, followed by Lofton and Ty Dillon, who have 302 points each. With 297 points, James Buescher makes it four drivers separated by fewer than 10 points.
