Not a lot has gone particularly well for Miguel Paludo this season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Friday's first practice at Kentucky Speedway would qualify as a notable exception.
Paludo, a Brazilian driver with just three top 10s in 15 outings this season, paced the session in his Turner Motorsports Chevrolet with a lap of 176.528 mph.
Richard Childress Racing driver Joey Coulter, who scored his first Truck Series victory in August at Pocono, was second after touring the 1.5-mile Kentucky track at 176.091.
Red Horse Racing's Parker Kligerman (175.901) and teammate Timothy Peters were third and fourth, respectively, with ThorSport Racing's Johnny Sauter completing the top five.
Clocking in sixth through 10th in speed were Brian Scott, points leader Ty Dillon, Justin Lofton, Nelson Piquet Jr. and David Mayhew.
Dillon leads the standings by eight points over Peters and 11 over James Buescher with seven races remaining.
A second practice is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET followed by qualifying at 4:40.
Live race coverage on SPEED begins at 7 p.m. with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup.
The Kentucky 201 is scheduled to begin just after 7:30.
