Even though he hasn’t raced in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series so far this year, it didn’t take Kyle Busch any time at all to get up to speed Friday morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Busch, who has 30 race victories in 101 career Truck Series starts, led Friday morning’s opening round of practice for tonight’s Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200 Truck Series race at AMS.

Driving his own Kyle Busch Motorsports No. 18 Toyota Tundra, Busch blistered the 1.54-mile track with a best lap of 178.482 miles per hour, tops among the 36 trucks setting times.

Second fast was James Buescher in the first of the Turner Motorsports Chevrolet Silverados, turning a best lap of 177.938 mph. Then came the ThorSport Racing Toyotas of Johnny Sauter at 177.920 mph and Matt Crafton, 177.391 mph. Ty Dillon’s Richard Childress Racing Chevy was fifth, with teammate Tim George next.

Parker Kligerman was seventh, followed by Truck Series points leader Timothy Peters, Justin Lofton and Aric Almirola.

SPEED will televise the second round of practice at 1 p.m. ET, along with qualifying at 4:30 p.m. SPEED’s race coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup followed by the race at 8 p.m.
