Dakoda Armstrong led the first round of practice for tomorrow night’s American Ethanol 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway.

Armstrong had a best lap of 134.956 miles per hour in his No. 98 ThorSport Racing Toyota, tops among the 39 trucks entered in the race.

“We really just needed this bad,” said Armstrong, who is 16th in points with a best finish this season of 14th. “… We sat down and decided we needed a good run.”

Second-fast was the Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Joey Coulter, followed by Armstrong’s teammate Matt Crafton in a second ThorSport Toyota.

Justin Lofton was fourth in the No. 6 CollegeComplete.com Chevy with Jeff Choquette completing the top five in the No. 97 Liz Girl Logistics Chevy.

SPEED’s live television coverage of Saturday’s race begins with qualifying at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup at 8 p.m. and the race at 8:30 p.m.

With eight of 22 races in the books on the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, the championship battle is very tight. Timothy Peters leads with 306 points, followed by Lofton and Ty Dillon, who have 302 points each. With 297 points, James Buescher makes it four drivers separated by less than 10 points.
