My wife and I just celebrated our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, so I guess that qualifies me as a relationship expert, right?

Apparently Dr. Drew’s group must see something in me because I’ll be his guest Wednesday night on “Loveline.”

It might shock some of you that I have been a big fan of “Loveline” since I was about 16 years old. One of my childhood memories is listening to the show on the radio with my brother at night.

The program deals with helping young people with relationship and sexuality issues. So, am I on the show to give or receive relationship help? Probably a little bit of both, but there is no question that things will get a little inappropriate with me on the air. Red Bull has put me in a position to get myself in trouble here. They set me up to fail but I’ll have fun doing it, so it’s cool. No subject is off-limits.

Since I’ll probably be asked for some relationship advice, I’ll steal Kevin Bacon’s line and say, “You have to keep the fights clean and the sex dirty.” That’s a motto to live by.

Changing gears completely, while I’m in California this week for the NASCAR race at Fontana, I’ll be participating in a major Toyota event at their U.S. sales headquarters in Torrance. Toyota invites all their motorsports athletes out for an autograph session for their employees, which allows the Toyota home team to meet the drivers who represent their products on the track.

Unfortunately, my hometown, Manteca, is about six hours from Fontana – too far for a quick trip. But my father will drive down to Auto Club Speedway this weekend. Since very little in my life is planned, his visit is the only thing I’ve got scheduled as far as family and friends are concerned at this point. When I land out there, I’ll probably start calling people and see what they’re doing this weekend.

What I was doing last weekend at Daytona was having a great Speedweeks compared to last year’s. It was awesome to start the year off as well as we did. We’re 18th in points now, whereas we were 35th or so this time last year.

The No. 82 Red Bull Toyota team had a strategy going into the Daytona 500 and it worked well for us. We were lucky enough to miss two accidents that could have killed our day, and in the process, we led some laps. Considering the way in which the finish came down, I am lucky to have brought the car home in one piece. The whole race – actually the entire weekend – went smoothly for us. We made great progress just by qualifying the car on time, which is a great testament to the guys at the shop and the decision-making of my crew chief, Jimmy Elledge.

My 2010 Daytona 500 was light years better than the previous. Last year was a total disaster for the Red Bull team. It wasn’t that we made a bunch of mistakes - it was more of a case of me just being a wreck magnet. If there was an accident, I was somehow in the middle of it. After last season as a whole, I think we were owed some luck and fortunately we were able to collect on that at Daytona.

Between the two weeks at Daytona and the West Coast trip, I’m only home for one day during the entire month of February and that day is today. So, I’m going to sign off and spend the rest of the afternoon taking care of the things I don’t get to do while we’re on the road or on the track … like working on our relationships.

And don’t forget to tune in and hear what I have to say Wednesday night with Dr. Drew. You never know … you just might learn something from me besides how to drive a race car.

Scott Speed is in his second full season as the driver of the No. 82 Red Bull Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. True to his flamboyant personality, Speed made a splash on the NASCAR scene in 2008 when he won a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in only his sixth start. He followed that up with one pole position, four top-five and nine top-10 finishes in only 16 starts that season. Prior to his foray into NASCAR, Speed began his relationship with Red Bull in 2002 after winning the Red Bull American Driver Search and scored four victories in the 2008 ARCA Re/Max Series. Before his stock car days, the Californian competed in Formula One for two seasons and was the first American to compete in the series since Michael Andretti in 1993.
