NASCAR CONFIDENTIAL HIGHLIGHTS RACE DAY FROM START TO FINISH FROM NASCAR AND TRACK’S PERSPECTIVE
Granted unprecedented, behind-the-scenes access, the next episode of NASCAR Confidential on SPEED (July 20, 8 p.m. ET) will take viewers into the inner workings of race control for the most complete look ever at what it takes to put on a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.
The one-hour special marks the first time in history NASCAR has allowed cameras to document an entire day in race control, in addition to all race-related meetings and activities throughout the day. With this unfiltered look at race day from start to finish, viewers will see and hear how a race is controlled from every perspective.
Utilizing more than 20 cameras, SPEED documented the May 25 Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway from the arrival of NASCAR officials at the track to post-race team hauler departure and NASCAR’s subsequent arrival at Dover International Speedway four days later.
“This is much more than another NASCAR show,” said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. “Very rarely in television do you get the opportunity to do something that hasn’t been done before, so we are grateful to NASCAR for granting the access that enabled us to take SPEED viewers deeper inside the sport they follow with such passion. It’s easy to comment on things from the outside looking in, but NASCAR Confidential continues to do a great job of telling stories from the inside looking
Highlights include access to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series director John Darby’s meeting with 45 NASCAR officials, pre-race technical inspection, NASCAR executives’ procedure meeting, speedway security meeting with the FBI and ATF and the race from atop race control, in addition to interviews with key NASCAR and Lowe’s Motor Speedway executives. The special also offers complete coverage of the race from eight distinct viewpoints, including the pace car, chase car, race control (three angles), NASCAR replay official, pit exit official, pit lane official, flag stand and FOX TV truck.
NASCAR Confidential is part of SPEED’s designation of July 18-19 as “Warriors Weekend,” with expanded coverage of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series and premiere of a series of specials highlighted by a nod to American grassroots motor sports.
SPEED, now in nearly 78 million homes in North America, is the exclusive home of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, Gatorade Duel at Daytona, NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The only network delivering live, at-track programming all season long, SPEED offers the definitive pre- and post-race NASCAR Sprint Cup Series programs – NASCAR RaceDay and NASCAR Victory Lane, as well as other popular NASCAR programs including Trackside Live, Tradin’ Paint, NASCAR Performance, NASCAR Live!, This Week in NASCAR, NCTS Setup, Go or Go Home and The Chase is On.
