SPEED's John Roberts and Kyle Petty with special guest Randy Pemberton at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida

John Roberts: "Already it had been rumored that Chip Ganassi racing with Felix Sabates was going to merge with DEI and that was made official this past week. What it means on the surface, lot of people lose a lot of jobs but on the other hand, this may save some jobs down the line putting them together. It was said they were going to four teams, no perhaps three, Randy what do you think it means to the drivers, teams, and the people that work for them?"

Randy Pemberton: "This is about car owners right now. That is where we are at right now. The car owners have to be solvent. They have to be able to come to the race track, do what they do, and really from a business perspective, they have to have enough operating capital to come here, perform, and that means whether the testing policy, merging to make your bottom line better. You have to do these things so we’re hearing a lot of merger talk. Petty Enterprises has been part of that deal and several others. Right now we see huge names, and I think the question is, really looking beyond that is how did DEI get to the point? They seemed like their future was so bright there for a while and all of a sudden it looked like oh well Dale Earnhardt Jr., he was going to leave and ever since that, you took the biggest name of the sport, you took him off the page there, and you know things not worked out for them. Chip Ganassi, he has been pedaling since he got here, and he has done a good job but he just has not had the success on the track to attract those sponsors and keep it rolling."

John Roberts: "When you look at that, just the name in and of itself the name Dale Earnhardt commands a tremendous amount of respect. To now have that team, I mean it didn’t go away, it didn't disappear, but it is merged with somebody else, it is not Dale Earnhardt Incorporated anymore."
