Five NASCAR Nationwide Series teams that didn’t have guaranteed starting spots entering this weekend’s race at Texas Motor Speedway have secured spots for the April 11 race at Nashville Superspeedway.

The Nationwide Series guarantees 30 starting spots based on owners points with the condition that the team must have attempted to qualify for every race.

The 2008 owners points were used for the first five events. Nashville, being the sixth event, will use the 2009 owners points.

The five teams guaranteed positions are Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 (driver Kyle Busch), Roush Fenway Racing No. 16 (Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth), Braun Racing No. 10 (David Reutimann, Kelly Bires), Nemco Motorsports No. 87 (Joe Nemechek) and JD Motorsports No. 01 (Danny O’Quinn).

The five teams losing their guaranteed positions were MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 (D.J. Kennington, Kevin Hamlin), Day Enterprises Motorsports No. 05 (Jeff Green, Justin Ashburn, Casey Atwood), Means Racing No. 52 (Donnie Neuenberger, Scott Gaylord, Trevor Bayne, Kevin Lepage), RAB Racing No. 09 (John Wes Townley) and MSRP Motorsports No. 90 (Johnny Chapman).

The big gainer at Texas was Smith Ganassi Racing’s Kenny Hendrick, who used a 25th-place finish to move up three spots in owners points to 29th and keep his guaranteed starting spot. Hamlin finished 31st as the MacDonald Motorsports team dropped out of the top 30. The MacDonald team, which has not named a driver for Nashville, is six points behind O’Quinn and JD Motorsports for the final guaranteed spot.
