When Carl Edwards intentionally crashed Brad Keselowski just shy of the finish at Gateway in front of the entire field … the ensuing carnage caused Brad to lose thirteen positions and to be slammed across the finish line in a terrifying multicar pileup. Kevin Harvick was parked for a Cup race in 2002 after intentionally spinning another competitor in a TRUCK race at Martinsville…NASCAR’s SLOWEST track. Edwards has intentionally wrecked Keselowski in a Cup race at NASCAR’s FASTEST Track …Atlanta… and did so again at Gateway Saturday night in the Nationwide series. The race should have ended with a Black and Checkered flag…the Checkered for Reed Sorenson and the Black for Carl Edwards. NASCAR took a win from Ricky Rudd for roughing up Davey Allison at Sonoma in 1991 and should have done the same Saturday night to Carl.

The “have at it boys” should NOT be a license to wreck other drivers at will. NASCAR has stated that there is a “line” that should not be crossed. Wherever that line is… Edwards crossed it. Carl should be parked for the Brickyard. Would it cost Carl a place in the Chase? Probably. I would also deduct the cost of all the wrecked race cars in the Gateway final lap debacle from his end of season winnings.

NASCAR enjoys the publicity that controversy brews…especially during a Cup off week. They like having people talk about NASCAR. The Edwards/ Keselowski Gateway controversy got people talking…but for all the wrong reasons. Taking the Gateway win from Edwards and parking him for the Brickyard will get fans talking…for the RIGHT reasons. “Have at it” NASCAR.
