Elliott Sadler, fresh from winning last week’s Nationwide Series race at Phoenix, stayed in the headlines Saturday by winning the pole for Saturday afternoon’s Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Sadler, driving for Richard Childress, turned in a fast lap of 181.366 miles per hour to edge Kasey Kahne (181.044) for the first starting position.

The pole is the 12th of Sadler’s career.

Sadler and Kahne were the only drivers over the 181 mark. Completing the top five were Austin Dillon, Brian Scott and Brad Keselowski.

Danica Patrick qualified 12th.

Sadler’s win last week at Phoenix was his first in the series since 1998.
