Paul Menard led Thursday’s opening round of practice for the Tech-Net Auto Service 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Menard blistered the 1.5-mile CMS track at 177.328 miles per hour in his No. 96 Roush Fenway Racing Ford. Close behind was the No. 11 Braun Racing Toyota of Brian Scott, who clocked a best lap of 177.061 mph.

The remainder of the top five consisted of defending NNS race champion Kyle Busch, at 176.171 mph in his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, followed by Steve Wallace and Carl Edwards.

The second five was Ryan Newman, Joey Logano Jason Leffler, Brad Keselowski and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

The final "Happy Hour" round of NNS practice begins at 5 p.m. ET Thursday and will be televised live on SPEED.
