Kyle Busch interrupted the Nationwide Series party Saturday afternoon by winning the pole for Saturday night’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway.
Busch, one of several top Sprint Cup regulars participating in the race, ran a fast lap of 183.051 miles per hour – the only run over 183 – to win the 25th Nationwide pole of his career.
The three top contenders for the Nationwide championship qualified in the top five.
Point leader Elliott Sadler was second. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who trails Sadler by six points with three races remaining, qualified fifth, and Austin Dillon, 26 points out of the series lead in third, qualified fourth.
Sprint Cup driver Kevin Harvick qualified third.
In the second five were Cole Whitt, Joey Logano, Danica Patrick, Denny Hamlin and Kenny Wallace.
Ryan Newman, making his first start this year in a Nationwide race, qualified 12th.
Jennifer Jo Cobb hit the wall during qualifying and failed to make the starting grid.
The race is scheduled for 300 miles (200 laps).
