Kyle Busch led an opening three-hour Nationwide Series practice on Thursday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as drivers made their first laps in preparation for Saturday's inaugural Nationwide race at the famed Indiana oval.

Busch, who posted a top speed of 174.754 mph in his Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota, showed the way over Sprint Cup Series teammate Denny Hamlin (173.940) and Nationwide points leader Elliott Sadler (173.487).

Camping World Truck Series regular Ty Dillon and Mike Bliss completed the top five.

A second practice is on tap for later this afternoon.
