It was Kahne’s eighth pole of his career in 163 NNS starts and his first since May 2008 at Richmond. “My Great Clips Toyota was good pretty much everywhere,” Kahne said of his pole-winning run.

Second fast in the session was another Toyota, the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing entry piloted by Kyle Busch, who ran 180.763 mph.

Row 2 will consist of Kahne’s teammate, Reed Sorenson, who qualified at 179.569 mph, and Ryan Newman’s Phoenix Racing Chevy, 179.563 mph.

Carl Edwards captured fifth place with a lap of 179.377 mph in the first of the Roush Fenway Racing Fords. Josh Wise had a good qualifying run in the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, earning a spot on the outside of Row 3 with a lap of 178.943 mph.

Rounding out the top 10 were Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick, Paul Menard and Joey Logano. Series points leader Brad Keselowski qualified 15th.

The only driver who failed to qualify was Jeremy Clements.
