Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart wrote their names as prime candidates for the victory Friday afternoon by claiming the front-row spots for Friday night’s Subway Jalapeno 250 Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway.
Harvick turned a fast lap of 181.653 miles per hour to lead the qualifying session.
Harvick’s Chevrolet was the first of four Kevin Harvick Inc. cars claiming the top positions in the field. Stewart was second at 181.375, followed by Elliott Sadler and Clint Bowyer.
The first non-KHI driver was fifth-place Trevor Bayne.
Danica Patrick, returning to the Nationwide Series from Indycar racing, qualified seventh.
Others in the field include Carl Edwards, eighth; series point leader Reed Sorenson, ninth; and Kyle Busch, 14th.
The race is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
