Carl Edwards won the Virginia College Savings 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway Friday night.

Results: Richmond

Edwards put his No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion into the lead on the last pit stop of the evening and held off Kevin Harvick in his own No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet for the victory. Kyle Busch finished third, followed by Brad Keselowski and David Reutimann.

Pole-sitter Denny Hamlin held the lead in the early stages of the race, his Joe Gibbs Toyota Camry showing early strength after starting alongside teammate Busch.

Keselowski took the lead for the first time on pit road, going from third to first on a Lap 42 stop, as he got his JR Motorsports Chevrolet out ahead of the pack.

With 100 of 250 laps in the books, Keselowski led Busch by 0.621 seconds. The remainder of the top five consisted of Hamlin, Greg Biffle and Harvick.

But Busch’s JGR Toyota closed in and passed Keselowski on Lap 113, just 12 laps short of the halfway distance. Hamlin pulled up to make it a JGR 1-2 at half distance, with a caution flying one lap later for debris. At this point, just 18 cars were on the lead lap.

Busch held the lead on pit road over Keselowski, Carl Edwards, Biffle, Harvick and Hamlin, who lost four spots on the stop due to a dropped lugnut on the right-front tire.

The race restarted on Lap 132, Busch holding off Keselowski. But the track stayed green for just five laps before Steven Wallace and Jason Leffler made contact, with Leffler cutting a right-front tire. Worse yet, he lost a left-front tire on his subsequent pit stop.

The green came back out on Lap 141, Hamlin immediately challenging his teammate for the lead and taking it on Lap 144. Twenty laps or so later, Busch’s Toyota began to fade as he was passed first by Edwards and then by Harvick.
