It was the third consecutive pole for the 19 year-old Bayne, who now has four career poles in 36 career NNS starts.

Bayne lapped the 0.875-mile Iowa oval at 133.266 miles per hour in his No. 99 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota. That was enough to give him the top starting spot over Kyle Busch, who qualified the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota at 133.007 mph.

Qualifying on Row 2 behind Bayne and Busch were Brian Scott, who’ll start third in his Braun Racing Toyota, which qualified at 133.001 mph. Starting on the outside of Row 2 will be the Penske Racing Dodge of series points leader Brad Keselowski, 132.755 mph.

Rolling off on Row 3 will be Steve Wallace and Jason Leffler. Completing the top 10 were Kevin Harvick, Justin Allgaier, Matt Dibenedetto and Kevin Lepage.

The presence of NASCAR Sprint Cup regulars like Busch, Keselowski and Harvick in the Nationwide Series doesn’t bother Bayne.

“I always talked about how I wanted to be a Sprint Cup champion one day and I think that’s what is going to benefit me the most is racing against these guys every week and it’s going to make me a better driver,” said Bayne, who is still looking for his first career NNS victory.

“If everything was just handed to us it would seem easy and we’d step into Sprint Cup and we’d struggle even more so than now,” he said. “I kind of enjoy the struggle a little bit. I definitely would like to see some of us getting some wins now and then, but it’s definitely making us better for the future.”

It was a brutal day for Roush Fenway Racing drivers Colin Braun and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., both of whom crashed in qualifying. Stenhouse also crashed in practice, which means having wrecked both his cars, he’ll race Carl Edwards’ backup car in tonight’s race.
