The first off-weekend of the 2010 season is here, so I’m going to keep this week’s column short and sweet. It’s a little odd having an off-weekend just four races into the year – and even odder that we have another off-weekend just three weekends from now – but I think I can speak for all of us on the NASCAR circuit when I say that we really value the time that we do get at home.

I don’t really have a “honey-do” list to tend to this weekend. I have a lot of good people that work for us year-round who take care of that kind of stuff. So I plan on just relaxing.

I’ll probably try out my new RC car. If the weather holds up, I’ll work on the barn some. I may even spend some time working on my Chevy Dump Truck. Although I don’t have a list of things that I have to get done, there are plenty of things that I can do around here.

And of course, I will spend some quality time just hanging out with Krissie and the dogs. It’s nice to have the break from the hectic lives we have on the road.

I know that all of you reading want my opinion on the Brad Keselowski-Carl Edwards deal in Atlanta last week, and to be honest, I’m just going to sit back and let them figure that one out on their own. As you all know, my biggest concern is that yet another car got up in the air. That’s been my concern all along.

Hopefully, with the new spoiler and the test that we have next week in Talladega, we will be able to rectify that problem and keep it from happening again.

But now, it’s time for me to enjoy a rare weekend off.

Ryan Newman is in his ninth full season as a driver in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and he’ll spend it with two-time Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart. Newman drives the No. 39 Chevrolet Impala for Stewart-Haas Racing, the team co-owned by Stewart and Haas Automation, the world’s largest machine tool manufacturer. In 2010, Newman will be sponsored by Tornados, Haas Automation and the U.S. Army. Newman is a graduate of Purdue University, where he has a degree in vehicle structure engineering. In his first eight seasons, Newman has collected 45 poles and 13 wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, including the 2008 Daytona 500 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. When not racing, Newman enjoys fishing and restoring his classic cars. The avid outdoorsman, along with his wife Krissie, play an active role in the Ryan Newman Foundation 501(c)(3), which they founded in 2005.
