HORNADAY AND SKINNER’S “DREAM CAR” LIST WITHSTANDS TEST OF COLLECTOR CAR EXPERT ON EVE OF PAIR’S FIRST BARRETT-JACKSON VISIT

FORMER NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES CHAMPIONS WILL ATTEND BARRETT-JACKSON BEFORE COMPETING IN SEPT. 25 TRUCK RACE AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY; BOTH LIVE ON SPEED™

Hornaday: ‘I’m going to pay some pretty good money for a ‘rat rod’ … I don’t like to buy things. I like to restore them myself and work on them.’

Skinner: ‘The new Lexus LFA they just came out with is unbelievable … It’s like a Formula One car you can drive on the street. I think it’s better than the Lotus and Ferrari.’

To some, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series former champions Ron Hornaday and Mike Skinner seem to have it all … a job many would kill for, championships and a garage full of collector cars in pristine condition.
However, each has his own list of “dream cars” he’d like to own, as does virtually anyone who either attends or watches the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas next week (live on SPEED Sept. 23/4-11 p.m. ET, Sept. 24/4-11 p.m. ET and Sept. 25/2-9:30 p.m. ET).

In fact, with the Truck Series also in town less than 20 miles away at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 25 (9:30 p.m. ET live on SPEED), the veteran drivers will cruise over to Barrett-Jackson Friday, Sept. 24, to check out the latest offerings on the auction block before heading to the speedway. Interviews with Hornaday and Skinner, as well as their auction block adventures, will be featured Friday during SPEED’s Barrett-Jackson coverage and during the network’s Truck Series broadcast Saturday.

In the meantime, SPEED caught up with the two for a glimpse into their “dream garage.” If money and vehicle availability were no object, what five cars would Skinner and Hornaday love to own? And what does Mike Joy, SPEED’s on-the-block reporter for Barrett-Jackson, and the voice of NASCAR on FOX Sports and SPEED, think of their selections? Joy offers his expert take on the champions’ dream mobiles, as well (Joy’s thoughts in blue font).
For two drivers with such similar racing backgrounds, their “wish lists” vary quite considerably … but yes, there is a truck somewhere on someone’s list.
My SPEED is devoted to the passionate fans who celebrate motorcycles, motorsports and the automotive lifestyle.

Mike Skinner, driver of the No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RV Toyota:

1) Lexus LFA:

“The new Lexus LFA they just came out with is unbelievable and my number-one dream car. It’s like a Formula One car you can drive on the street. I think it’s better than the Lotus and Ferrari. The only problem is that it runs close to a half of a million dollars. When Lexus gets ready to do something, they do it right.”

“There aren't many new cars that qualify as instant collectibles, but this certainly is one. Price, exclusivity, performance, fit and finish, exotic materials … it’s all there. I've seen the car up close and it’s much more striking than it is in pictures. That's a great choice to top your dream list of modern cars.” --Mike Joy

2) 1969 Supersport Chevelle:

“When I was in school, a buddy of mine had a 1969 Supersport Chevelle with the big block 396 (cubic inches of the engine) and 375 horsepower. It was a really cool car and I liked the body design on it. I’d definitely entertain putting one of those in my stable.”

“These were the kings of the street in their day. With the right gearing, only a street Hemi could keep up with it in acceleration, and the Chevelle would walk the competition in the corners. These are, and will continue to be, strong collector cars for just the reason Mike points out ... you either had one, or your friends did, and you always wanted one.”--Mike Joy
