The AirAsia Grand Prix has lasted just a few laps for Edwards who decided to come into the pits after having a problem with the gearbox of his Suter – BWM.
Colin Edwards – Not Classified
“It all started this morning, we went out and I missed the downshift pretty bad in the warm up and maybe it damaged something in the gear box because after a couple of laps I couldn’t downshift at the end of the main straight. Finally I run out a little wide but after this everything seemed to be ok after that. Again on the main straight I could hear a clinking, like metal on metal or chassis on chassis, or maybe even the gearbox again, so decided to pit in to see what was wrong.”
Sergio Verbena – Crew Chief
“It’s a shame we had to retire today, because our pace was good enough to battle for good points with some other CRT. Looks like we had a failure with a gearbox sensor but we need to analyze data to figure out. Colin had a bad feeling with a gearbox and he preferred to stop because it’s very dangerous to have this kind of troubles on a very fast track like Phillip Island is.”
