I can't seem to find any information on the 2008 Sprint Cup races subject to impound rules. Do you happen to know if they have been announced? - Aric Wentz
Thanks for the question, Aric. There are five impound races remaining in 2008: Both Richmond and Talladega races, and the Pepsi 400 at Daytona in July.
Thanks for giving David Gilliland a good word in your article. You are one of a very few who even seem to notice him. I feel he will soon be surprising a lot of people. - Bruce McLaughlin
That’s a great point, Bruce. I think David Gilliland is a very talented driver, who so far has had to race for a team that has been going through a series of difficult transitions. Ultimately, I expect him to do very well. And unlike some of the young kids who come into the sport in top-flight rides at the start of their careers, Gilliland is very appreciative of the opportunity he’s had here. He’s also a very nice guy.
What can some of the smaller teams do to survive in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. I hate the thought of independents going away. — Sue Armstrong, Blue Ash, Ohio.
Sue: Welcome to SPEEDtv.com. Unfortunately, that ship already has sailed. I really believe that five years from now, there will only be 11 or 12 Sprint Cup owners with four cars each. Some will be racers like Rick Hendrick or Richard Childress, while others
Is NASCAR going to allow other teams to switch car owner points like Penske Racing did with Kurt Busch and Sam Hornish Jr.? — Bobby Ramos, Las Vegas.
That’s a great question. Actually, NASCAR has decided it will now allow in-season point swaps only in situations where teams actually merge. If a team wants to trade points among its own drivers, from now on, it will only be allowed to do so in the off-season and then keep them that way for an entire racing year.
Are NASCAR teams allowed to put a light in car to notify a pit stop? Crew chief would control a switch to notify driver to pit, if radio goes down. Thanks — Dean Corrie, California.
Dean: Thanks for the question. As of now, there is no such provision in the NASCAR rule book. It’s an interesting idea, though.
