Adrian Sutil says he’s a much stronger package than he was in 2011, his last season with Force India before his year on the sidelines.

Sutil finished ninth in the World Championship that year – behind the drivers of Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes – despite the distraction of his ongoing legal case and the knowledge that he was being replaced by Nico Hulkenberg.

“I think you learn out mistakes,” said Sutil when asked by SPEED.com. “If you can solve problems in your life, you’re stronger anyway. You always have to solve problems and if you’re really good at it, you shouldn’t be scared of life in general. I went through this time, I went through a bad time, now a good time feels much better. I feel strong, and hopefully it translates into the circuit. Mentally, for sure, I’m on a good level and definitely better than I was in 2011.”

Sutil says he’s delighted to be back with his old team.

“I always had a very good relationship with them,” he said. “I was with this team for a very long time, I saw the changes in the team, and it was nice to see how they were growing. In the end, the team gave me a chance to come back into F1, and I appreciate it a lot. I still want to achieve something that I haven’t achieved so far. There’s a lot work to do, and I look forward to doing this.

“I still have a lot of things to do. My target is high. It’s just a drive right now, and I have to perform. The performance is what it’s all about, that’s why I’m coming back. It’s not like I signed a paper and now it’s all done. I’m happy, it was the first step, in the right direction, but there’s a long way to go.”
