Benefiting from extra seat time thanks to Mark Webber’s leg injury, Sebastien Buemi – all but confirmed as one of Toro Rosso’s racers for next year – topped the charts in Formula 1 testing at Jerez for the second day this week, and the fifth straight day dating back to last week.

The Swiss outpaced teammate Sebastian Vettel by nearly 0.3sec as both RBRs again ran in 2008-spec guise.

BMW Sauber brought its two racers to the Spanish circuit, and Nick Heidfeld ran ahead of Robert Kubica as the pairing, with ’09-spec machinery, was over two seconds slower than Buemi. Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima was the final runner at Jerez.

At the new Algarve track in Portugal, McLaren and Ferrari carried on working alone.

Jerez F1 testing times – Tuesday:

1) Sebastien Buemi, Red Bull-Renault, 1:17.029, 83 laps
2) Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull-Renault, 1:17.319, 83
3) Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber, 1:19.303, 85
4) Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber, 1:20.006, 61
5) Kazuki Nakajima, Williams-Toyota, 1:20.332, 105
