Red Bull Racing has hired veteran Kevin Hamlin to fill the crew chief position for driver Brian Vickers and the No. 83 NASCAR Sprint Cup Toyota Camry. Vickers had been without a full-time crew chief since last October, when Doug Richert resigned.

Hamlin is a veteran of the NASCAR war,s having served most recently as crew chief for Dave Blaney at Bill Davis Racing. Prior to that, Hamlin spent nine seasons at Richard Childress Racing, where he was crew chief for Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and the late Dale Earnhardt Sr.

In his career, Hamlin has nine Cup wins as a crew chief, including five with Earnhardt.

"Finding the right crew chief for the 83 team was a pivotal decision in an effort to restructure the foundation on that team," said Red Bull Competition Director Elton Sawyer. "We need a crew chief with not only the right experience and background to work effectively with our driver and crew, but someone who also shares the same vision for success. We found that package with Kevin Hamlin. Our focus between now and Daytona is not only getting our cars up to speed for the season opener, but also getting Kevin up to speed working with Red Bull, Brian (Vickers) and the 83 team."

Vickers and Hamlin will work together next week, when the team tests at Daytona International Speedway. Vickers's teammate, AJ Allmendinger was consistently among the fastest cars at DIS this week, during initial testing.
