Brian Vickers continues to shine in NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying this season, winning his sixth pole of 2009 on Friday at Michigan International Speedway.

Vickers, who posted a fast lap of 187.242 mph in his Red Bull Racing Toyota, will be joined on the front row for Sunday’s Carfax 400 by Hendrick Motorsports’ Mark Martin (187.013).

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya, Hendrick’s Jimmie Johnson and EGR’s Martin Truex Jr. completed the top five, as Penske Racing’s Kurt Busch, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Ryan Newman, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Joey Logano, Wood Brothers Racing’s Bill Elliott and Richard Petty Motorsports’ Kasey Kahne completed the top 10.

Kahne will have to go to the rear of the field, however, after losing an engine in Friday’s practice. Front Row Motorsports’ Tony Raines was slowest among the 44 drivers who took laps and failed to qualify for the race.

Cup activities resume Saturday with two practices followed by the race just after 2 p.m. EDT Sunday.
