Rarely does any team ever put the kind of butt kicking on the field that Hendrick Motorsports did Saturday night at historic Darlington Raceway.

In the Southern 500 Presented By GoDaddy.com, Hendrick drivers Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson swept the top two spots in their Chevrolet Impalas, with teammates Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski coming home fifth and seventh, respectively. And when you consider that the Hendrick-built and powered Stewart-Haas Racing Chevys of Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman were third and fourth, well, it was a Hendrick drubbing of the highest order.

Of the top 12 cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup points standings, Gordon leads, with teammates Johnson and Martin fourth and 11th, respectively, while Stewart is second and Newman eighth. That’s five of the top 12 being Hendrick or pseudo-Hendrick cars, for those of you keeping score at home.

“We were very, very strong,” said Gordon, the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. “Jimmie had to start deep in the field. Mark just did a solid job all night long. And they played out the strategy right.”

Gordon said his quasi-teammates at SHR were impressive as well. “Tony and Ryan are doing an amazing job,” Gordon said. “Their teams are strong. Their equipment is obviously good, we know how good that is, and the resources. And they're maximizing it. They're doing what you should do in that position. They're utilizing those resources that we all worked hard for that they have teamed up with us in a way. And Brad did an amazing job too. I think it showed that tonight we were very strong.”
