NASCAR Sprint-Cup Series
CUP: The Answerman Returns
The NASCAR Answerman is on SPEEDtv.com - The Online Motorsports Authority and welcomes your questions...

Welcome, race fans, the Answerman is back! Let’s get right into it with this week’s questions:

So what’s the deal? Were the Hendrick cars legal after Dover or not? — Curious in Rock Hill, S.C.
Curious — thanks for the question, one that a lot of fans are asking. Yes, according to NASCAR Sprint Cup Director John Darby, the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets of Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson were legal after last week’s race in Dover.

“Both cars passed inspection or we would be having a whole different conversation with this,” Sprint Cup Director John Darby told reporters Friday morning at Kansas Speedway.

That said dimensionally, they were within a few thousandths of an inch from being out of compliance with NASCAR’s measurements, which is why the team was brought to the NASCAR R&D Center for a discussion and to show team officials exactly how the car measured out.

Please, what is the status of the new Ford FR9 engine? — James Simpson
Excellent question, James. Ford’s next-generation NASCAR Sprint Cup engine will debut in the Oct. 18 NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. What is a closely guarded secret at the moment is which Ford car or cars will race it at Charlotte. But multiple sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed to me that it will race at Lowe’s.

Will we have fuel injection in NASCAR next year? — Matt, Malibu, Calif.
Hello, Matt. We will have fuel injection in NASCAR, but it won’t be until 2011 at the earliest. NASCAR is already meeting with the manufacturers and the teams, trying to determine the best fuel injection system — one that will result in better fuel mileage and a smaller carbon footprint, but at the same time be something that’s easy to police in tech inspection and hard to cheat up.

I am looking for the 1/24-scale diecast No. 43 Reynolds Wrap Dodge raced at Richmond International Raceway. Can you help me find it? — Wyndham
I don’t know if one of those has been produced or not, but I’d start with the Richard Petty Motorsports gift shop. They can be reached at RPM, 320 Aviation Drive, Statesville, NC 28677. Phone: 704.978.2321.
