NASCAR Sprint-Cup Series
CUP: Stewart Not Thinking About Danica
Will she or won’t she? Danica Patrick coming to NASCAR might be the biggest Silly Season story of the year...

This just in: Not too many people in the NASCAR Sprint Cup garage care about whether open-wheel darling Danica Patrick will move to NASCAR next season.

Patrick, of course, is in the final year of her contract with Andretti-Green Racing and has repeatedly teased fans and the media that she would consider a move from IndyCar to NASCAR. Presumably, Patrick would bring a ton of sponsor dollars with her and would have the opportunity to at least double her income.

SPEEDtv.com’s Robin Miller reported last week that Patrick likely would stay in IndyCar next season and move to the Target Chip Ganassi team, perhaps in a third car. Still, the rumors and gossip persists.

With most of NASCAR’s top stars already under contract for 2010 — the biggest free-agent on the market right now is Martin Truex Jr. — Danica mania is the top story of this year’s Sprint Cup “Silly Season.” But if fans and the media are making a big deal out of it, the drivers aren’t.

In fact, Tony Stewart said he has no interest in the comings and goings of Patrick, who has parlayed one race victory and a couple of Sports Illustrated swimsuit pictorials into being the most bankable presence in the struggling IndyCar Series.

“Contrary to everybody’s popular belief we’re pretty busy with what we’re doing here so we really don’t have time to watch and see what everybody else is doing,” Stewart told reporters Friday at Infineon Raceway. “That’s your job not mine. I have no idea. I’ve been worried about two USAC teams, two World of Outlaw teams, two Sprint Cup teams and three race tracks that we’re operating right now. I have no idea what’s going on outside of here. Sorry, I wish I could tell you more than that but I don’t know any more than that. We don’t pay attention enough to that stuff.”
