NASCAR RACE HUB RETURNS FEB. 4 AT 6 P.M. ET

SPEED hits the ground running for the 2013 NASCAR season with live coverage of the fourth annual NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

This year’s Induction Ceremony, honoring the 2013 class of Buck Baker, Cotton Owens, Herb Thomas, Rusty Wallace and Leonard Wood, is held one week before SPEED sets up camp at Daytona International Speedway with sister networks FOX Sports and FOX Deportes for the season-opening Daytona SpeedWeeks. Legendary NASCAR broadcasters Ken Squier and Barney Hall will be honored as the first media members inducted into the Hall of Fame with the annual and namesake Squier Hall Award.

Mike Joy hosts SPEED coverage with backstage reporting assistance from Krista Voda. The ceremony takes place at the Charlotte Convention Center and comprises the first half of NASCAR Acceleration Weekend, which culminates Feb. 9 with NASCAR Preview 2013, an all-day fan festival featuring driver autograph and on-stage Q&A sessions, the new sixth-generation NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars, giveaways, interactive displays and activities for fans (www.nascaracceleration.com).

“NASCAR icons like Herb Thomas, Thomas Cotton Owens and Buck Baker built the foundation our sport stands on,” NASCAR on SPEED & FOX analyst Darrell Waltrip said. “They made enormous sacrifices in their personal and professional lives to get NASCAR up and running, so guys like them are a necessity in the Hall of Fame. Leonard Wood’s remarkable innovations turned the crew chief world on its head forever. Finally, Rusty Wallace emerged, capturing headlines and the attention of the fan base. That’s why this year’s class is so important and so perfect. It represents the beginning of the sport, and without a beginning, there would be no today and no Hall of Fame.”

Leading up to SPEED coverage of the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the network examines the lives and careers of the five honorees in a one-hour biography special on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET. To complement SPEED’s Induction Ceremony coverage, SPEED.com has established a special NASCAR Hall of Fame page with inductee bios, editorial coverage, photos and video clips at http://www.speedtv.com/programs/nascar-hall-of-fame/.

This year’s class was determined by votes cast by the 54-member Voting Panel, which consists of representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, track owners, media members, manufacturer representatives, retired competitors, recognized industry leaders and a nationwide fan vote conducted through NASCAR.com. NASCAR Race Hub (Monday-Thursdays), SPEED’s one-hour nightly news and information program co-hosted by Steve Byrnes and Danielle Trotta, hits the air for its season premiere on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. ET.
