With the NASCAR season not yet half over, already the Sprint Cup garage is abuzz about what will happen next season, as teams, sponsors and drivers participate in the annual dance known as Silly Season.

Here’s what’s out there at the moment, both the facts and the rumors:

FACT Roush Fenway Racing is set. Mostly, anyway. The team has re-signed stars Carl Edwards, who will be sponsored by Aflac, and Greg Biffle, who will be backed by 3M. Both are locked in for three more years. The team is looking for a sponsor to replace AAA next year on David Ragan’s car next season. The team is also looking for a sponsor to pick up some of Biffle’s races.

RUMOR Jamie McMurray may be gone after 2008. Without question, McMurray’s tenure with the team has been disappointing, but his future with the team is unclear.

FACT Tony Stewart is shopping for a new deal. His current contract with Joe Gibbs Racing expires after the 2009 season. Stewart has said he has talked to Haas-CNC Racing about becoming a driver/part-owner of that team. On Friday, he said he’s interested in replacing Casey Mears at Hendrick Motorsports. Chevrolet has made a huge push to get Stewart back in the fold, throwing a lot of support behind his open-wheel race teams.

RUMOR One way or another, it is likely Stewart will be out at JGR, either next year or in 2010, and almost certainly with a Chevy team. If he goes to Haas-CNC, he’ll likely take another front-line driver with him, either Martin Truex Jr. or Ryan Newman.

FACT Richard Childress Racing needs another driver for its new No. 33 fourth car, which will start next year. RCR has re-signed Clint Bowyer to a three-year contract extension, which was announced Friday.

RUMOR This is one of the attractive rides out there. Casey Mears said Friday he’s interested in it, and Truex or Newman could be candidates as well. Scott Wimmer could be in the mix as well.

FACT Casey Mears will not return to the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet next year.
