Daytona International Speedway is going short-track racing. Well, sort of.

The track announced Friday that it will build a temporary .4-mile track on part of the DIS backstretch to host three events during 2013 SpeedWeeks.

The track plans to host races for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, the Whelen Modified tour and the Late Models of the Whelen All-American Series.

The races are scheduled for Feb. 18-19, 2013 – the Monday and Tuesday of Daytona 500 week. Those days generally have been “dark” at DIS during SpeedWeeks.

The races, to be known collectively as the “UNOH Battle At the Beach,” will be broadcast by SPEED.

The track will be formed by temporary barriers near turn two on the backstretch.
