Haas/CNC Racing has made its second driver in as many races for its No. 70 Chevrolet, which will be piloted by Ken Schrader next week at Talladega Superspeedway.

The team released Jeremy Mayfield following the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on April 6, replacing him with Johnny Sauter for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 last Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway. Sauter finished 37th at PIR.

He will be replaced by Ken Schrader, who began the year driving the No. 49 BAM Racing Dodge. After changing to Toyotas, BAM skipped Texas and Phoenix to reconfigure its fleet to Toyotas, but earlier this week, a hoped-for sponsor deal failed to materialize, and the team subsequently decided to sit out indefinitely.

So with Schrader available, the team opted to put the veteran in the seat for next week’s Aaron’s 499 at the venerable 2.66-mile Alabama superspeedway. Since the No. 70 is outside the top 35 in owner points, Schrader will have to race his way into the field, though that may not be hard, as car counts are down this year.

“I’m definitely very excited about the opportunity to drive for Haas CNC Racing,” said Schrader, who will be sponsored by Hunt Brothers Pizza at Talladega. “It is a younger team that is going through the growing process but yet has all of the elements in place. The team has an outstanding relationship with Hendrick Motorsports, and we know they have a proven engine program. We certainly don’t have to second guess the equipment.”
