Richard Petty Motorsports has worked out a payment plan that allows them to continue to purchase cars, engines and parts from Roush Fenway Racing and Roush Yates Engines temporarily.

That’s the word Friday morning from Jack Roush, co-owner of both Roush Fenway Racing and Roush Yates Engines.

On Wednesday, several of RPMs cars were temporarily taken back by the Roush organization, but the two sides subsequently reached agreement on a payment schedule. RPM must continue to abide by that schedule to receive support for the remainder of the season.

“It’s probably business as usual for teams that are tight on their budget at the end of the year,” Roush told SPEED.com Friday morning at Martinsville Speedway, prior to the start of NASCAR Sprint Cup practice for Sunday’s Tums Fast Relief 500.

Roush acknowledged that RPM had fallen behind in their payments, but a deal was struck to allow the team to stay afloat for the time being. “They’ve had some challenge making all their commitments. I’m not prepared to go into detail, but they’re fine now,” said Roush.

“I wasn’t in North Carolina Wednesday and Thursday, but my understanding is that they certainly have got all their cars and the pieces necessary and that they’ve got a plan that is acceptable that makes them have access to all that,” Roush said of RPM.

Roush said he would like to see RPM survive as an organization.

“There’s obviously commitments to the drivers, and there’s an expectation of the fans,” Roush said. “There’s a commitment from Ford and there’s a commitment from the sponsors that all need to be put in balance. As far as I know, it’s OK. They got a little behind, but the drivers were paid on time and as far as I know, everything is current.”
