Roush Fenway Racing’s David Ragan led the first NASCAR Sprint Cup practice Thursday, turning a lap of 190.714 mph in the hot, humid conditions at Daytona International Speedway.

Richard Childress Racing’s Casey Mears was second at 190.666, with Ragan’s teammate, Jamie McMurray, third at 190.460. Forty-five drivers took laps in preparation for Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at the 2.5-mile track.

Last week’s winner at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Joey Logano, was fourth for Joe Gibbs Racing, with Brian Vickers fifth for Red Bull Racing.

The rest of the top 10 were Mark Martin (Hendrick Motorsports), Kyle Busch (JGR), Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing), Juan Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing) and Kurt Busch
(Penske Racing).

Regan Smith (Furniture Row Racing) was the fastest of the drivers needing to make the race via qualifying, turning a lap of 185.709 mph.

The Cup series has another practice slated for 6:35 p.m. EDT today.
