Phoenix International Raceway will announce this week that it will retain two Sprint Cup races next season and that the “spring” event will be moved from April to February, SPEED.com has learned.

The season’s first PIR race will be scheduled Feb. 27 and will be a 312-lap, 500-kilometer event.

The change is part of dramatic switches in next year’s schedule. Among the biggest are the additions of a second race at Kansas and a new event at Kentucky. Auto Club Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway are losing dates.
